About Me

I’ve been blogging for years, almost a decade now that I think about it.  I’m probably a bit old to be part of the generation of perpetually tech-savvy kids, but close enough.  My family was always a bit ahead of the curve there.

To give some basic biographical detail, I’m a 20-something Texan living in Oregon.  I was born in Texas and lived there all the way through college.  After I graduated, I packed up my Honda Civic, hugged my family goodbye, and drove out to Oregon so that my boyfriend and I could finally live in the same city.  You’ll have to trust me that this was a rather uncharacteristic move.

I have yet to find a permanent job, though I have found steady work as a temp.  I’ve found a good place to live and made some good friends here.  I finally managed to visit both Crater Lake and the coast this past summer (so now I don’t have to be ashamed of myself for missing out on either of those when I move away from this state).

I got my BA in history, but haven’t really done anything with it just yet.  I’m thinking about going back to school in a few years to get an MA in Library Science.   I like to talk about history, especially with my boyfriend (who is a much more advanced student of history than I will ever be).  Sometimes, when the mood strikes, I’ll even go back to reading nonfiction history books.  Currently, the ones I’ve got going are about Medieval Europe.

My favorite hobbies at the moment are crocheting and gardening.  I taught myself to crochet just over a year ago, and usually have  quite a lot of fun with it.  I’ve been trying halfheartedly to get into gardening for awhile now, but I think I’ve finally got the bug.  I’ve planted myself a little patio container garden, and was already thinking about what I’d plant in the fall and next spring before I’d finished.  I hear that’s very common. 🙂

I have also had a number of musical hobbies in the past.  I’ve been playing the piano most of my life, and played the cello in middle school and high school.  Piano is an instrument that’s easy for me to pick up again after long periods of not playing, but cello doesn’t quite work like that (so I don’t play it nearly as often as I probably should).  I also took a single (academic) year of voice lessons, and would really like to get back into that when I’ve got the time and money.  Well, at least the money – once I have that, I’ll make the time.

Aside from all that, I am frequently a political junkie, although not as much just recently (mostly because the news is always quite gloomy these days).  It should be fairly obvious that I lean quite far to the left politically.

So that is about all I can think of to say about myself.
